Max and Irving Finkelstein

The History Of Max Finkelstein, Inc.

Although he didn't know it at the time, when 15-year old Max Finkelstein took over the family's junk business upon his father's early passing, he was building what would someday become a true American success story.

From the beginning this was very much a family affair, with his younger brother Irving pitching in to help make ends meet for their mother and siblings. Eventually, they abandoned the junk business to devote their energy full-time to the tire business.

The family business was already in place at Astoria in Queens, and would continue as the headquarters for their fledgling entry into this new field. After WWI, they became affiliated with Goodyear Tires, and soon realized that there was quite a market for entrepreneurial-minded young men like themselves.

Their goal from the very beginning was "quality product, delivered quickly," and they made sure this was consistently fulfilled, even if it meant delivering the tires themselves via the subway system.

Their business flourished and they eventually branched out to other locations to serve the growing demand for tires. Today, the original Max Finkelstein location remains as the company's headquarters, with five additional branches strategically located to serve over 1200 retail customers throughout the greater Northeastern United States.

The family-oriented environment is still very much intact, with Irving's sons Jerry and Harold having run the company and passing the torch to a third generation to manage the operations.

Employees too have always been made to feel like family and as a result, many have been with Max Finkelstein for twenty, thirty and even forty-plus years.

The company still adheres to "quality product, delivered quickly" and will no doubt continue to uphold Max Finkelstein's legacy of exceptional customer service.
